Red Rice - Rooi Rys

Red Rice is especially good with fried shrimps or baked fish.
Rooi Rys is heerlik saam met gebraaide garnale of gebakte vis.

Ingredients:
4 slices bacon
1 small onion (finely chopped)
1 cup uncooked rice
1 tin tomatoes (mashed)
1 table spoon sugar
salt and pepper to taste

Method:

  • Fry bacon till golden-brown. Remove from pan and cut in very small pieces.
  • Sauté onion in bacon fat until tender.
  • Add tomatoes, sugar, salt and pepper and mix well.
  • Add bacon and simmer for 10-12 minutes.
  • Add rice and simmer in rice steamer for at least 1 hour. Fluff with a fork after 30 minutes.
  • Bestanddele:
    4 repies ontbytspek
    1 klein ui (fyn gekap)
    1 koppie ongekookte rys
    1 blikkie tamaties (druk fyn)
    1 eetlepel suiker
    sout en peper na smaak

    Metode:

  • Braai ontbytspek tot goudbruin. Haal uit pan en sny in baie klein stukkies.
  • Braai uie in vet van ontbytspek tot sag.
  • Voeg tamaties, suiker, sout en peper by en meng goed.
  • Voeg ontbytspek by en prut vir 10-12 minute.
  • Voeg rys by en laat prut vir 1 uur in 'n ryspot. Roer liggies met vurk na 30 minute.
